Description
Just in time for the holidays, we are excited to announce that we are bringing back an old favorite – the Decorative Box making class! This is an intermediate level class designed to aid you in the design and construction of fine decorative box making. In the class we will employ several decorative joinery and finishing techniques as you make a series of three boxes to take home with you. The first will be the famed Shaker oval box, where you will learn the techniques for bending and nailing these beautiful pieces. The second box will be a splined mitered box, in which you will learn how to accurately cut miters and reinforce them with decorative cross grain splines. The third and final box will feature small dovetails, the hallmark of great craft.
In this course we will examine techniques and practices for creating decorative boxes using dovetails, splined miters, and finger joints. You will also learn how to build some of the jigs required to produce these decorative joints. The boxes will feature sleeved inserts, fitted lids, and cut lids. We will examine three different finishing methods for achieving different results. We will also examine unique lid design, material selection for decorative pieces, flocking, and this is just a sampling of what you will learn in this course.
Join us to take you craft to the next level. Seats are limited, so register today, this one will fill up fast! Classes begin each day at 9:00AM and end at 5:00PM.
