Description

We invite you for the second class in our 4 part Table Saw Mastery Course. This class is all about crosscutting and we are going to teach you how to build the ultimate cross cutting jig and trick out your miter gauge for improved safety and precision. We will also examine outfeed table design so you can get the most out of your workstation by expanding the usefulness of your table saw. We understand that this is a challenging machine to fully understand, so we designed this course of study to guide you in mastering the table saw.

In Level 2 we will take a deep dive into the complex world of crosscutting on the table saw. It is easy and safe as long as you understand the physics for each scenario and use the right tool for the job. Lessons in this class will include standard methods for crosscutting with the rip fence, the miter gauge, crosscutting sleds, and sliding table attachments. We will begin by teaching you to create zero clearance inserts and then teach you to make accurate square cuts, angles, and compound angles using a variety of tools and table saw accessories. Each student will build what we call the ultimate crosscutting jig with built-in clamping and stops for repeatability. The jig will also feature auxiliary fences for making safe, repeatable, and accurate angled cuts. Additionally, you will learn how to trick out your miter gauge (be sure to bring yours to class!!!) for a variety of cuts including finger joints, production cross cuts, framing, small part production, and more.

Please note, this is an active hands on class in which you will use the machines frequently. Please bring clear, clean safety glasses, hearing protection (we prefer over-the-ear muff style hearing protection as they fit more securely, provide better decibel reduction, and physical protection in the event of flying debris). Wear comfortable close-toed shoes and work clothes with no dangling drawstrings, baggy sleeves, etc. Seats are limited, and we will only offer this class once per year. So be sure to register early!
