Study Woodworking Full Time

The North Carolina Furniture School Cabinet & Furniture Maker’s Program

The NCFS Cabinet & Furniture Maker’s Program is a one-year full immersion course designed for candidates interested in careers in furniture and cabinet making; and those wishing to study woodworking at a deep level for personal gain. Candidates must reside within driving distance of the school and be able to attend M-F, 9am – 5pm. Our schedule closely follows the academic calendar, honoring state and federal holidays, fall, Christmas, spring, and summer breaks. This program is application-based and seats are very limited.

Over the course of one year we will train you on state-of-the-art equipment in all aspects of woodworking for the professional environment. The program also incorporates a heavy business curriculum to prepare students for the rigors of entrepreneurship or management-level employment with existing firms. We are committed to helping our students realize their potential and will do everything possible to aid them in success after completing our program. In support of this commitment, we maintain a network of professional relationships in the industry that will aid students with employment opportunities and vendor relationships.

Candidates that satisfactorily complete the NCFS Cabinet & Furniture Maker’s Program will earn a Certificate of Completion supporting a broad and exceptional degree of skill in the fields of furniture and cabinet making. These certificates will aid students in seeking employment or founding their own businesses.

The program begins with the assumption that all candidates have no woodworking experience, regardless of prior exposures to the field. We will move students through a rigorous learning experience and help them master the following skills:

• Workshop, tool, and machine safety for the professional environment
• Practical knowledge of machine setup and maintenance
• Workflow, material identification, material handling, and wood processing methods
• Advanced knowledge of hardware and other necessary resources
• hand tool, machine tool, and digital fabrication methods for the professional environment
• Production methods for workshop profitability
• Jig making for safe and efficient woodworking
• Essential management methods for the woodworking business
Our classes are open to anyone over the age of 18 interested in the business of fine craft. We are particularly committed to aiding U.S. Military Veterans and other persons seeking meaningful skill-based education, additional income opportunities, and/or vocational rehabilitation.

If you are serious about a career in woodworking and seek deep experiential learning, we would like to hear from you. Please visit our contact page and send us an email to get started.
