Every successful hand tool woodworking project begins with careful stock preparation. Students will learn how to dimension and prepare stock by hand from rough cuts to final surfacing. This beginner course assumes that students have never done stock preparation by hand and will address common questions and pitfalls about taking rough stock through finished stages.

Every successful hand tool woodworking project begins with careful stock preparation. Students will learn how to dimension and prepare stock by hand from rough cuts to final surfacing. This beginner course assumes that students have never done stock preparation by hand and will address common questions and pitfalls about taking rough stock through finished stages.

Required tools: handsaws (rip and crosscut), 12” combination square, jack plane (Stanley no. 5 or similar). Suggested tools: Trying plane (Stanley no.7 or similar) and smoothing plane (Stanley no. 3 or 4 or similar)
