Discover the art of woodturning with our three-day beginner class. This hands-on course covers essential techniques, tools, and safety practices for shaping wood into beautiful functional and decorative items. Gain confidence in your creative abilities and leave with multiple crafted pieces to share with friends and family. Whether you’re exploring a new hobby or seeking a unique gift idea, our woodturning class offers an excellent introduction to this rewarding craft.
We will begin with a morning overview of the class and what you can expect to learn each day. Then we will review best safety practices and explore the essential tools and machinery. You will learn all about materials, material selection, wood movement, wood storage, and wood drying. We will explore the two types of turning; spindle turning and face turning. Each day you will complete a series of exercises on the machines including: cylinders, cones, beads, coves, square to round transitions, and bowls. You will also learn some of the essential techniques for preparing wood for the lathe with a bandsaw.
If you are considering a lathe purchase, wait until this class so we can help you find the right machine to meet your goals. We have worked with most of the lathe manufacturers on the market so we can provide insights on any machines you are considering. We also proudly offer Nova, Rikon, and Easy Wood Tools products at discounts to our students. So please let us know if we can be of assistance to you before you purchase!
