Six board chests are quintessential pieces of American furniture. They are elegant, understated, sturdy, and functional. In this special three day class you craft your own six board chest using a combination of traditional hand tool and modern machine techniques.

On the first day we will focus on layout, design, and material preparation. This will include drawing lessons and how to properly create a cutlist to reference throughout the build. Day two we will cut and join all the parts and install the hardware. On day three we will sand, assemble, and finish the chests.

Building a six board chest is the ideal way to explore woodworking as a beginner or build on your skills if you are more experienced. We will discuss wood movement, material selection, joinery and fasteners, surface preparation, hardware, and traditional finishing – and in this special class you get the added plus of taking home a handcrafted treasure!

All equipment, materials, hardware, and lunch are provided. Please bring your own safety glasses and hearing protection, and if you have your own handplanes and chisels, please bring them too!
